Viral Video Ping Pong XVI: Lost Generation

“Viral Video Ping-Pong” - a weekly series on the bigMETHOD blog in which Greg and John attempt to outdo one another with the posting of an incredible low-budget clip.

I love that the creators are trying to achieve something good with the message, and apparently 6+ million other people also liked this.

At the same time, I don’t 100% agree with what they are saying (not to mention I can’t stand the building music they included). What this person is suggestion is 1 take on the infinite possibilities in life. It is great that they are sharing this take but they are doing it in a way that makes some people’s choices seem wrong and makes some things that people don’t want to do but need to happen for societies to share the Earth seem less important.

There is a quote from the movie Gladiator that I might quote too much, but it speaks to this:

Cicero: “Sometimes I do what I want to do. The rest of the time, I do what I have to.”

Why am I sharing this video? Because too often we all get something sent to us that has gone “viral” that is misleading but it shapes our thoughts and opinions. I want to remind people: don’t get sucked into something, don’t share something just because it makes you feel good. Spend the time to think about what they are saying and how the world could function, with every single person being unique, based on these thoughts. Watch it, judge for yourself, and know that when you share something with others you are giving it your stamp.
