Viral Video Ping Pong XV: Zero Punctuation: inFamous

“Viral Video Ping-Pong” - a weekly series on the bigMETHOD blog in which Greg and John attempt to outdo one another with the posting of an incredible low-budget clip.

When it comes to web videos, it is well accepted that you have at most 10 seconds to capture your viewer’s attention. Those are the only moments you get to sway the user on the value of your video or loose their potential advocacy for life. But what about the rest of the video?

I have no clue how many views this video has gotten but I do know that I stayed and watched the whole thing. The reason that this is really interesting to me is because I couldn’t always keep up with the voice over and don’t play video games; there is no reason I should have watched this at all. After the video finished playing, I realized this fact and quickly understood why I stuck though even the music on the credits:

  1. Those first 10 seconds of excitement, the moment that was made to capture my attention, was the entire video.
  2. They took the time to not just write a review, not just video tape themselves giving a review, they created something unique to project their review.

That is it. That is the formula. Create something that people want to see, make the whole thing exciting (or get back to editing), and make it something special.
