Viral Video Ping-Pong XI - Ground Control to Major Awesome

“Viral Video Ping-Pong” - a weekly series on the bigMETHOD blog in which Greg and John attempt to outdo one another with the posting of an incredible low-budget clip.

Framing.

When someone says “viral video” what pops into your head? Probably one of the silliest (in many ways) and most useless time consuming moments that you have chosen to relive anytime you have the chance to share this bit of nonsense with any willing being. Maybe you watched the video on YouTube, but chances are the video gained the needed momentum to reach your now mush brain because people blogged the video.

That is usually what viral videos are and that is why it is so tough for companies to make a video that will go viral; it is dumb luck that it will be good to the point where people want to put their own stamp on it.

However, that is not the only way a video can achieve viral success. A video going viral is about interest. Just because you didn’t capture someones ultimate humiliation on tape doesn’t mean you will intrigue viewers.

And just like dumb luck can be aided by interest, blog posts of the content can be aided by Digg. That is how I came across this page of videos that are not embeddable:

NASA High Definition Video

There are videos, and videos can spread virally, but there is no standard in viral video.
