The Latino Online Market Sees Growth

A recent article by the New York Times states that the Latino online audience grew from last year. On the other hand, slight decrease in the overall use of the internet among Americans. The Latino online audience grew by 5.4 percent according to the research firm comScore. This is of immense importance since Latinos have a high percentage of 18-34 year olds within the overall Latino population. In addition, Latinos consist of the largest minority group in the United States accounting for 15.1 percent of the population.

Although the numbers may not seem large, it is important to keep in mind that overall usage of the internet among Americans decreased in the past year. Also, since 18-34 year old Latinos account for a large percentage of the Latino population they tend to gravitate towards more entertainment and social networking sites. A Scarborough Research report also added that since Latinos have a large percentage of 18-34 year olds, they are “21 times more likely to download online media content”. Therefore, it is obvious to see that Latino online trends will just continue to increase. Latino online trends will be of specific importance when analyzing and researching websites that cater to younger generations.

The only remaining question is, are you marketing to Latinos online? If you aren’t right now is the best time to begin to do research on this market and their internet habits. By understanding this market now, it will provide your company with an advantage years down the line when other marketing agencies begin seeing the importance of Latinos as an online market.
