Social opinion, no crystal ball

Months ago, maybe even more than a year ago, I read an article in Popular Science or some magazine about a hedge fund investor who was working on a digital system to analyze the conversation occurring around individual companies stocks to be able to more accurately predict the performance.

It seemed like a really neat idea, but I had my doubts. People are hard to predict and gauging individuals reactions at this type of gambling based activity is extremely tough because people tend to act irrationally when it comes to gambling, looking to win big.

Well, it looks like a similar, or maybe even the same service, has popped up on the web with Piqqem.com.

Again, it sounds neat and I am curious to see how it does, but right now I wouldn’t hedge my bet with Piqqum.
