Re-confirmed: Music Fuels the Digital Fire

A new report released by market research firm Hitwise confirms what we’ve known for years - this whole web 2.0 thing is a perfect bedfellow for the music industry.

The digital generation is turning off their television at increasing rates in lieu of online video, and music has a lot to do with this shift. According to the report, “analysis on the top 50 search terms entered into YouTube’s own search engine reveals that 72% of searches are music related.”

That is a staggering statistic.  YouTube is proven to be an absolute juggernaut - recently named the 2nd biggest search engine in the world.  Over 2/3 of those searches are attributed to music.  Here’s how the math breaks down:

2/3 X (100 million videos served a day) = [A lot of people seeking and enjoying music online]
