PhotoHunt 2.0

Just a couple of weeks ago Street Fighter found a new platform on the world’s number one online video destination and the concept of multi-level YouTube games really got us thinking.

The latest on this front absolutely warms my heart.  YouTube user ‘copyrighthater’ took the idea and brought the digital world 2009’s version of a long-standing tradition for college-age bar dwellers.  Photo Hunt.

If you aren’t already familar, the original game is a favorite at watering holes around the country.  Players are presented two nearly identical pictures on a touch screen and have to point out the difference before time runs out.  It’s simple, it’s addictive, and it’s extremely…social.  Long edge-of-your-seat runs for the high score has typically involved partners looking over the shoulder and passerby’s chiming in to help point out what you’re struggling to see after the 18th photo duet.

Ironically, the web 2.0 version isn’t likely to retain the social element that makes the original so appealing.  Still, it’s another outstanding example of what can be done with flash embeds in a YouTube clip.  Fun, engaging, and on a personal note, reminiscent of a time when I was ’social’ without even logging in first.

Thanks to Boing Boing for the tip.
