Cool Technology: Carbon Nanotubes

The World I want to live it is a World of one. I am not saying I want to walk the Earth alone like Caine and I don’t want Baskin Robbins to stop serving the other 30 flavors. My World of 1 is of 1 device.

Every where I go I am sure to be carrying 3 things: my keys, my wallet, and my Blackberry. I want these 3 to be one. I want this same 1 to be 1 for people who have 5 things. I want it to use RFID. I want it to be extremely durable. I want to be able to crumble it into a ball, wash it in my jeans pocket, dry it on high, and still be able to use it without any issues.

I think that might be a possibility in my life thanks to nanotubes.

I came across 2 articles about nanotubes on DiscoverMagazine.com about the subject that are incredibly interesting and worth the read:

Rubbery Computer Screens Can Be Bent, Folded, and Even Crumpled

9 Ways Carbon Nanotubes Just Might Rock the World

Here is an exerpt from the second to wet your whistle:

“Imagine a computer screen that could be bent, folded in half, and even crumpled like a sheet of newspaper, without affecting its function in the slightest. Researchers at the University of Tokyo took a step in that direction in May when they constructed a display made of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) paired with a rubbery, nanotube-based conductor.”
