An Old Dog Teaching Us Something About New Tricks

We’ve been working with the Bill Cosby team and it’s been a pleasure on a number of levels. Clearly there’s the simple history of having grown up with the man in your living room every night. Of course there’s his pure and true desire - whether you agree with his perspective or not - to make positive change in the world. Obviously he’s also hilarious.

Still, this week has been the most eye-opening, and on a completely different plane. In a recent online video exchange with Shira Lazar, Mr. Cosby summed up why it is that he’s now looking at social media as a compelling outlet for his message:

It’s amazing. All the social media experts rattling off mumbo jumbo and waxing poetic about engagement, the landscape, and [fill in the buzz word]…and 72-years young Bill Cosby nails it in plain English:

That I am able to control what I say and what I mean without someone editing and making it sound like that which they want my words to be. In other words, through this social way of talking, getting the point across, adding to it in a helpful way…whatever one wishes to do…this is clearly the closest that one can get to one-on-one, or one-on any number of people and have them responding back to you…or to me.

Albert Einstein once said “if you can’t explain it to a six-year-old, you don’t understand it yourself.” Mr. Cosby showed this week he understands it…a lot better than most of those that claim to.
