Am I “That Guy”? Sweet!

Yesterday Kelly sent me this article from Time.com:

Why the Office Oddball Is Good for Business

It starts like this:

“Want to get the most out of your next brainstorming session at work? Bring in an oddball. If you can’t find an oddball, try a naysayer or even a mere stranger — anyone who can keep things vaguely uncomfortable.”

Two out of three… not bad!

I have never been one for meetings. It isn’t that I get easily distracted, in fact it is quite the opposite, it is the fact that I can be quite the distraction. I love to change the direction of the conversation. On top of that internally I get easily distracted, generally on topic. My mind wanders. The problem is usually when my mind comes back to the conversation it has taken a trip down the Yellow Brick Road alone and even though it has arrived at the Emerald City everyone else is looking for the rabbit hole. If that all made sense, then we are making porridge.

My point is a few points.

The article was interesting. Every project is not the same and even though there is a formula there should be at least one new idea. Never work with a company that doesn’t have a few firecrackers. Listen to the weird ideas, they might not start out right but they will lead to great things.

That’s all.
